For almost two years now, Kiera's boyfriend, Denny, has been everything she's ever wanted: loving, tender and endlessly devoted to her. When they head off to a new city to start their lives together, Denny at his dream job and Kiera at a top-notch university, everything seems perfect. Then an unforeseen obligation forces the happy couple apart.

Feeling lonely, confused, and in need of comfort, Kiera turns to an unexpected source—a local rock star named Kellan Kyle. At first, he's purely a friend that she can lean on, but as her loneliness grows, so does their relationship. And then one night everything changes...and none of them will ever be the same.

My Thoughts
This is a very well written New Adult Romance.  Though it's over 500 pages do seem quite daunting at the out set, you quickly come to realize that these pages contain highly developed characters capable of full expressions of emotion.  This is important to mention here because books tend to be shorter in the Romance genre, causing the flow of the stories they tell to become choppy as readers are ushered quickly from scene to scene.

The classification of this work as New Adult rather than Adult  comes as a result of the fact that Kiera, and possibly Denny are under 25 and the tone of the novel lends itself to that age range.

The elicit romance between Kiera and Kellan both serves as the meat of the story and leaves readers with an interesting conflict of loyalties.  The reason being, although you know that the relationship between the two lovers is wrong; the passion regret, pain, and all out dysfunction of these two apart is just to much to bear.

Kellan's emotionality is also a huge draw for readers of this book.  It is not often that we see a male lead who is so willing to put his heart out there for the world to see, while still managing to keep all of the things that make him sexy in tact.  This author manages to capture all of the dark and brooding angst that makes vampires so desirable without the fangs.

For much of this read, it seems as though Kiera's first boyfriend Denny is just doomed to be clueless about the goings on between her and his bestie forever. It is this seeming never ending cluelessness on the part of an otherwise very intelligent and observant character, that serves as the Achilles heal of the story.  That fact does change in a big way however, and we come to see Denny in a very different light in the latter chapters.

This book is a great start to an intriguing series, and this reviewer can't wait to read more.
