This book is a cross between "Northern Exposure" and "The Twilight Zone." The pairing of the scenic coziness of Stanbury, Vermont and the demonic portal that is the Lakebridge; is the perfect blend of quirk and spookiness.
The character's struggle to live their lives in spite of the menaces of bad luck and death that plagues the town will tug at reader's hearts.
Some characters seem to have a closer relationship with the evil of the town than others, and it is these that you have to watch. I won't go into who is who here because the discovery of who knows what and what they do or don't do with said information is the crux of the story.
This is a book full of evil, love, loyalty, laughter and death. The most fun thing about this read is discovering it all. Who will live? Who will die? Who will remember?
The town is still there. Most of the people are not and everyone is in an uproar because the secrets of the town and it's people have become public fodder. Readers get to watch as the people and ghosts of the the beloved town try to cope.
There are some new additions to the cast of characters, the demon is still there and so is the bridge. The thing that makes this read special is the fact that the people of the town are no longer walking around with blinders on in relation to the evil the both supports and feeds on the town.
The quirk and the laughs are still there, although the pain and loss are much nearer to the surface.
I can't wait for the other installments of this wonderful cozy horror.
