When I was a little girl, Daddy told me never to fear the dark. “We exist because of the darkness,” he told me. “All of you are daughters of darkness.” Beloved bestselling author V.C. Andrews’s passion for vampires comes to spellbinding life in a long-awaited novel of dark desires as all-consuming—and forbidden—as in Flowers in the Attic. One night, with the sound of a young man’s scream, high school senior Lorelei discovers that her stern but loving father, who adopted Lorelei and her sisters as infants, is no ordinary man. He has raised his beautiful girls for one purpose: to lure young men into their world of shadows. Like her sisters, Lorelei has been trained in the art of seduction and warned never to fall in love. But when she meets a handsome and charming classmate, she boldly defies her family and follows her heart—even if love is a poison. . . .Dangerously enticing and deliriously intoxicating, V.C. Andrews’s Daughter of Darkness will leave readers thirsting for more

Daughter of Darkness is the first vampiric themed novel from the famed V.C. Andrews stable.  Sadly, the excitement that was generated around its release fails to translate onto it's pages.  What readers do get is the classic family rivalries, the strange overly involved governess (Miss Fennel), a rather questionable relationship between father and daughters, coupled with plenty of creepiness.
Let's face it...this is not a serious novel.  This is not even a serious V.C. Andrews novel, but it is a good way to pass time on the bus or whatever.
Lorelie is a strong leading character even though she spends most of the book second guessing herself.
The biggest flaw in this read however, has to be the ease with which Lorelie seems to get away with duping the nest full of supernatural beings that she lives with.  Her sneakiest plan for meeting her secret love, for instance, is something that even a high school freshmen can out do.  Yet, it baffles the minds and super senses of the ages old vamps.
SERIOUSLY?!
The best part of this book was the end.  That is where what little magic there is in this book is to be found.
In short, this is a good way to pass time. especially if your only other option is watching paint dry.

Daughter of Light is the second offering in the Kindred series.  This is definitely NOT a stand alone.  If you do not read Daughter of Darkness, you will have absolutely no idea what is going on here.More scripted V.C. Andrews plot.  Girl runs away to new place, but can't get over past.  Basically, the synopsis with a bit of a surprise (anti-climactic) at the end.

  1. When I was younger, I devoured her books, but they became uninteresting for me. The new ones miss the charm from her older books..
