Warm Yourself In the Cold Fire of "Crimson Frost"

Crimson Frost (Mythos Academy, #4)Title:  Crimson Frost
(Mythos Academy #4)
Author:  Jennifer Estep
Format:  Print ARC
Length:  384 pages
Publisher:  Kensington

For a moment, a face flashed before my eyes—the most hideous face I’d ever seen. No matter how hard I tried to forget what had happened, I saw him everywhere I went. It was Loki—the evil god that I’d helped set free against my will.

I should have known that my first official date with Logan Quinn was destined to end in disaster. If we’d gotten into a swordfight, or been ambushed by Reapers, I’d have been more prepared. But getting arrested mid-sip at the local coffee hangout? I didn’t see that one coming.

I’ve been accused of purposely helping the Reapers free Loki from his prison—and the person leading the charge against me is Linus Quinn, Logan’s dad. The worst part is that pretty much everyone at Mythos Aca
demy thinks I’m guilty. If I’m going to get out of this mess alive, I’ll have to do it myself.  -Goodreads

My Thoughts
In case you were wondering.  This is the best book of the series by far.
Loki is still free and Gwen is still in the thick of things, but at least this time she has Logan to help her through.
Or does she....?

This time...
Gwen it seems is being investigated by The Protectorate Elite for her role in the freeing of Loki.
Did I happen to mention that said Protectorate is a cross between all of the law enforcement agencies with letters for names and a gladiator fighting stable?
Did I also happen to mention that it is headed up by...Logan's dad!!!!!!!

This book is awesome from the start.  If you have always been a big fan of the whole "underdog triumphs again" battle that is ongoing in the plot line; this installment does not disappoint.  The fact that Gwen is not only fighting gods this time, but also clueless adults with hidden agendas, unresolved grudges, and a myriad of  back-story details that come to light during the read is enough to make the nosy parker in every reader stand up  and cheer.

As if that isn't enough Vivian, champion of Loki, is back and doing her best to cause all the chaos that she can at every turn.

This book held fast to Ms. Estep's style of keeping her read light and fun; while staying true to the gods and goddesses referenced and the places that they hold in their respective myth set.  There is a new pantheon introduction this time around with the addition of Russian myth.  YUM!

Speaking of introductions, there are a lot of new characters and some new relationships of note.  (Wink).

On to what's missing.
There is a rather pronounced absence of god/goddess/human interaction this time around.  This my be alluding to more deified presence in the next book.(One can only hope.)  The humans hold their own quite nicely though.
The ending is a cliff-hanger...
Not just any cliff-hanger but a get out the Kleenex, I'm going to need some time, OMG cliff-hanger.
There is an important piece in the story missing by the end, but you'll have to read the book to understand.

This is a fun and thrilling read that promises an edge-of-your-seat, good time...
AND DELIVERS.

  1. Well, I have not read this series. But I do like the idea of myths, I recently did a detailed report about Greek Myths. It is very fascinating, and I love it that the author incorporated it into her story.
