Knowing the outcome doesn’t always make a choice easier . . .

Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.

In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through . . . and who she can’t live without.  -Goodreads

My Thoughts
This is a very unique blend of the paranormal and contemporary aspects of YA.
Addie is a girl on the verge of a great change in her life with the impending divorce of her parents.
Faced with the choice of living with either her mother or father, Addie chooses to use her unique ability as a Searcher to explore the possible outcome of each choice.

This story is one that engages readers from the start.  Divorce and the choices that must be made as a result provide readers with a great lead into a promising drama.  When such an emotional "hot button" is paired with likable characters, hints of danger, a bit of mystery, teen romance, and the paranormal; the result is YA goodness of the first order.

This is a book that does the one thing that most YA plots do not.  It puts the protagonist in charge of the outcome of her life, without taking away the mystery and journey involved in arriving at said outcome.  Readers are allowed to wonder, question, celebrate and worry along with Addie as she experiences both paths.

This is also a book in which the reader gets to choose a path and see if the path that they chose was the same as the one chosen by Addie in the end.

Nothing about this book is ever a given, and as such, there is no clearly right or wrong path.

This is a true masterpiece with a surprise ending that will both touch your heart and get you primed for the next book in what promises to be a great series.

  8. Great review! I've been curious about the book, but kinda on the fence before I read this. I like that there is no designated right and wrong path! Addie's talent sounds really unique, and I think it's a great idea that the author combines paranormal and contemporary elements.

  9. I've seen this book all over the blogs but I didn't read any reviews on it until now. I had no idea that it was one of those books that you get to choose which direction to go to. I remember reading a few books that you had to pick which way you wanted to go and again and again. I actually miss that! I hope this turns into a trend and see more books that will give you a choice of the outcome. I totally LOVED your review. I was reading the review and it's making me want to go buy it but I just checked and its not out yet:( This is one book on the top of my TBR and its already put in my shopping cart on B&N!! Thank you again for a great review!!
