The mansion on top of Benson Hill has been empty and boarded up for years. But a new family has moved in. A family that never ventures out during the day. Who are these creepy people -- especially the handsome, dark, and elusive Alexander Sterling? Or rather, what are they? Could the town gossip actually be true? Are they vampires?
Raven, who secretly covets a vampire kiss, both at the risk of her own mortality and Alexander's loving trust, is dying to uncover the truth.
Ages 12+ -Goodreads
This is a very sweet read that though clearly light enough to be breezed through in one sitting, is interesting enough to be well worth the time.
Raven is so loveable, spunky, and just wrong for the little closed minded town in which she lives.
She shines a little too brightly and refuses to be confined to the narrow conventions of acceptability that EVERYONE around her subscribes to.
Her life long dream is to become a vampire.
Alexander Sterling, mysterious, homeschooled loner, never seen in the light of day, master of the long empty mansion on the hill, and vampire?
Watching Raven and Alex find each other, get to know and come to understand each other, and fall in love is just so much fun that one can excuse the predictability of some of the story elements.
For all of his sweet dark charm and mystery, this story would go nowhere if not for Raven's "I'm not taking this lying down" attitude; when the town bully make her and Alexander his target.
This is one of those stories that you either love or hate.
I just happen to be on the love end of the spectrum.
I just love the fact that dark and broody can be a little Pollyanna too.
Can't wait for book 2.
