BookSparks PR Presents: Love and Other Subjects

Love and Other SubjectsFor every woman who thought she chose the wrong career…

In Love and Other Subjects Carolyn Jenkins strives for two things—to be the greatest teacher ever and to find true love. She’s as skilled at both as an infant chowing down with a fork. Carolyn’s suburban upbringing and genuine compassion for people who don’t fit effortlessly into society are no match for weapon-wielding, struggling students, drug-using colleagues, and a wicked principal.

Meanwhile, her budding relationship with a mystery man is thwarted by his gaggle of eccentric sisters. Carolyn depends on her friends to get her through the hard times, but with poverty-stricken children at her feet and a wealthy man at her side, she must define who she is. The reality of life after college can be daunting—the road to full-fledged adulthood is long and unscripted. Can kytake control and craft the life she’s always wanted.  Goodreads

My Thoughts
Carolyn Jenkins is a young woman who leaves college with a teaching degree, stars in her eyes, and dreams of saving the world "one student at a time".  Those dreams bend into strange and never heard of  shapes after she starts teaching at an inner city school under nightmarish circumstances.
Complicated yet?
Just wait.
Love just has to rear it's lovely head into her life in the form of a very handsome and rich man named Jeep.
It doesn't seem as though Jeep's sisters are going to make it easy for these two to ride off into the sunset together.

This book is for everyone who has an idea how and where they want their life to go, but are not quite sure how to navigate the obstacles involved in getting there.
There is a wonderful balance between the somewhat self deprecating voice of Carolyn and the quirky and off beat  humor of other characters.  It is this balance that keeps one side from overtaking the flow of the plot while making the book extremely readable.
Readers will also love the fact that Carolyn, like the rest of us, is allowed to muddle through situations.  We are there for each bump and lesson and able to cheer her on at each triumph.

At it's heart,  this is a book about finding one's passion.  Not only in work, but in all things.
"You only have one chance to be the best you."
