All I craved was one night to forget about the tragic murder of my brother Marcus. Elijah Malakai seemed like the perfect person to take my mind off everything my family had endured. He was a hunter and for the first time in years, I felt safe.

But Elijah had his own tragic past. As his secrets unraveled, my world was thrown into turmoil once more.

I had to decide whether or not Elijah was worth the pain his past would bring and if I was strong enough to stand by his side and fight.  -Goodreads

My Thoughts
Deaths by vampire are on the rise.
Girl takes guy home for a night of "help me forget the tragedies of my life" sex.
Girl thinks that guy is a "vampire hunter".
Things go horribly wrong, and girl finds out that said hunky guy is...
a vampire!
Meanwhile. Girl's pesky on again off again ex-boyfriend who can't seem to get the hint.
Even when said hint is standing in girl's bedroom with a killer case of bed head.  Keeps showing up at her house, and calling at rather inopportune moments.
Several of them!

In fact, some 25-30% of the book of the book is spent detailing Eva's (girl in question) role as a human ping pong ball between Elijah (hunky vamp) and Grayson (annoying human ex-boyfriend).
Granted, Grayson's meddling is somewhat justified by the fact that Eva soon becomes a target for every vamp bent on revenge, or whatever, within a 50 mile radius.
And...
The situation between her and Elijah is one of "will he eat me or won't he?"
So, there is just a little wiggle room for spastic hamster behavior, in the name of attempted self preservation.

Things heat up plot wise just a tad more after, in one of numerous attempts to save Eva, the afore mentioned vamps don't get what they came for.
She is the main character of the story, after all.  We can't have her getting killed off mid-book.
This is a significant point in both the story, and this review because this is where a plot that has been limited to three significant characters expands a bit.  This is also where, after a nice string of plot twists, things get rather predictable.

The best part of this book is Eva and Elijah.  Though their initial attraction reeks of insta-love, they are strong and intense people where were written for far more story than they got.  There is plenty of drama to be had, but the premise and story are not quite as developed as they have the potential to be.
