BLURB:

He’s infuriating…
Dempsey Jones has been a nuisance my entire life, the straight-laced Boy Scout grown up to be a firefighter, of all things. He was the one helping kittens out of trees and old ladies cross the road while I was lighting cherry bombs with my best friend in abandoned buildings, and now that we’re all grown up—even if my Dad doesn’t agree—he’s still just as annoying.
She’s impossible…
Taite Ridley has been a constant my whole life, the curly haired mischievous daughter of the police chief, charming and devious and alluring. She was wild in ways I never dared to be and too big for our little town. But she’s here, a small town cop, and I can’t avoid her, even if I wanted to.
And I don’t want to.
It’s like mixing fire and gasoline and when these two collide, someone is gonna get burned…

My Thoughts
This is essentially an undated take on the "small town romance" scenario.  Renamed for the sake of this read the "frienemies with benefits" scenario.  Or in the case of this review the "Awe, this is cute.  But would you guys please hurry up and get your shit together" scenario.

The Reason.
Everything about these to screams couple.  They see each other all the time. Because they travel in the same circles; both at work and play.  They know each other's pain with them both having lost parents around the same ages.  They know each other inside and out.
But...
There always is a but...
They just can't seem to see the forest for the trees, for a myriad of resons
Until...
Someone from Demsey's past, a part that surprisingly didn't involve Taite.  Comes to town and starts clearing that forest faster than a land developer with permits and a backhoe.

The Nitty-Gritty
As usual, Nazarea has worked her relationship building magic yet again.  The relationship dynamic between Taite and Dempsey is so will written that as a reader, you want to go into the book and slap sense into both of them.  After you're done reveling in the delicious banter, and your eyes defog from the steamy sex scenes, that is.

This book is as close to being a perfect read is one could possibly get.
But...
Remember...I told you there would always be one.
There just doesn't seem to be enough real cause for these two to engage in the amount of angsty "cat and mouse" that this book is predicated upon.
It is very safe to say that if you take out the very grownup jobs, replace them with high school, and replace the sex with kisses and well timed interruptions at just the right moments.
You would have the perfect YA romance.

All About Nazarea

Nazarea AndrewsNazarea Andrews (N to almost everyone) is an avid reader and tends to write the stories she wants to read. Which means she writes everything from zombies and dystopia to contemporary love stories. When not writing, she can most often be found driving her kids to practice and burning dinner while she reads, or binging watching TV shows on Netflix. N loves chocolate, wine, and coffee almost as much as she loves books, but not quite as much as she loves her kids. She lives in south Georgia with her husband, daughters, spoiled cat and overgrown dog. She is the author of World Without End series, Neverland Found, Edge of the Falls, and The University of Branton Series.
