Can true love survive the end of the world?

Imagine finding your first love, only to be ripped apart by the apocalypse. Peyton Anderson will never forget the day she was forced to make a choice--between her family--and Chris Parker, the boy she'd given her heart. Now, four years later, as she steps from the fallout shelter and into a dead and broken world, he's the only thing on her mind.

All Chris "Chase" Parker wanted was to take Peyton away and keep her safe from harm. But he waited for hours in the rain on judgment day and she never showed--breaking his heart without ever telling him why.

Now the two of them have been thrown together once again, reluctant chaperones to a group of orphan children in a post-apocalyptic world where the dead still walk...and feed. As they begin their pilgramage to the last human outpost on Earth, can they find a way to let go of old hurts and find the love they lost--all while attempting to save what's left of the human race?

and so much MORE!

Though this book is absolutely brimming with the  "in your face," edge of your seat, "OMG, I can't believe that just happened," moments that one comes to expect in this type of read; the real meat of the story lies in what you don't see at first glance.
The tale that unfolds within these pages reminds readers that  though the fight with the wolf at the door may be fierce; it's the struggle it's  with our personal demons that truly has the power to make or break us.

For Chase, the demon d'jour appears in the form of feelings of failure and low self worth.  His demon's weapons of  choice a left jab to the head with repeated messages of "you really f-ed up this one," followed closely by a hard right of drug addiction to the body.  The unflinchingly honest view that the author gives her readers to this "fight for his life" is nothing less than a ringside seat to a 20-round match that would have Rocky Balboa shaking in his boots.

Peyton stands battle ready by all outward appearances.  Equipped by her father with technology that makes her stronger, faster, able to pick up heat signatures and see in the dark; as well as a stainless steel manicure that X-Men's Wolverine would envy, you'd think she'd be indestructible...you'd be wrong.

All the tech in the world can't save Peyton from her inner nemesis.  Peyton is afraid, and that fear has her in a death grip so tight that fighting it seems impossible.  She is afraid of her past, her future, living with who she is becoming, and excepting the the fact that she might die.  Most of all, Peyton is afraid of herself.  She fears her capacity to love and be loved.
With Peyton readers are allowed to watch her tap into that inner well of strength that no nano could fire to break the bonds of distrust and tear down the walls of self imposed alienation meant to be her prison.
